Leighton and Associates is committed to providing quality professional services consistent with the constraints of your budget and schedule. We are partners on your design and construction team, working to ensure that our fellow team members, the regulators, and the contractors all understand and meet the project needs. Our first priority is to keep your project on schedule.

Our services begin in the early planning stages of your project with:
  • Geotechnical feasibility and due diligence studies
  • Geologic and seismic hazard assessments
  • Interactive planning sessions with your planning team

During the design phase of your project, Leighton provides:

  • Subsurface geotechnical investigations to characterize geologic and soil conditions
  • Design parameters for foundations
  • Laboratory testing for soil and rock properties
  • Slope stability analysis and seismic ground shaking hazard levels
  • Remedial earthwork designs to mitigate or eliminate geotechnical constraints
  • Interim remedial earthwork volume calculations for estimating purposes
  • Groundwater investigation, monitoring, sampling/testing, and predictive modeling

When construction grading begins, Leighton supplies:

  • Geotechnical observation and testing of site grading
  • Settlement monitoring instrumentation, measurements and analysis
  • Design modifications (sometimes overnight) in response to new conditions exposed
  • Groundwater monitoring and testing
  • Construction material inspection and testing
  • Geologic mapping and approval of remedial earthwork
  • Certification of final building pad

Some projects require consultation on special geotechnical issues. Leighton professionals are best known for our expert work in the areas of:

  • Seismic hazard analysis
  • Geologic site conditions and hazards evaluation
  • Earthquake site response and ground motion studies
  • Design and construction of slope stabilization and landslide repairs
  • Analysis of property damage from soil settlement, expansion and creep
  • Geotechnical input to value engineering of large site development projects
  • Observation and testing of large earthwork projects

As lead geotechnical consultant to Pepperdine University, Leighton has supported the development and expansion of the campus for 25 years. Our investigative services have included geologic studies for land use planning and geotechnical engineering for buildings and facilities.

Leighton and Associates performed the geologic, seismic and geotechnical analysis, and evaluated the foundation design for the landmark Emerald Plaza Wyndham Hotel and Office Towers in downtown San Diego.
